2014- Chinese Year of the Wood Horse

The Chinese New Year this year falls on January 31, and according to the Chinese this is a lucky year!  Last year was the year of the Snake, and with Snake being connected to the element of fire, it was a year of turmoil, disruptions and change. This year the horse sign is connected with Wood.

“In Chinese Taoist thought, Wood attributes are considered to be strength and flexibility, as with bamboo. It is also associated with qualities of warmth, generosity, co-operation and idealism. The wood element is one that seeks ways to grow and expand. Wood heralds the beginning of life, springtime and buds, sensuality and fecundity. (Wikipedia, 2014).”  The Chinese believe horse to be a positive sign, because they never turn their head to eat grass behind them, they always look ahead and not backwards!  So get ready for a year of new beginnings, like a Phoenix rising from the fire of the year of the snake, out of the ashes of turmoil and change, the horse symbol heralds a time to grow and expand!
