2014- Chinese Year of the Wood Horse

The Chinese New Year this year falls on January 31, and according to the Chinese this is a lucky year!  Last year was the year of the Snake, and with Snake being connected to the element of fire, it was a year of turmoil, disruptions and change. This year the horse sign is connected with Wood.

 “In Chinese Taoist thought, Wood attributes are considered to be strength and flexibility, as with bamboo. It is also associated with qualities of warmth, generosity, co-operation and idealism. The wood element is one that seeks ways to grow and expand. Wood heralds the beginning of life, springtime and buds, sensuality and fecundity. (Wikipedia, 2014).”  The Chinese believe horse to be a positive sign, because they never turn their head to eat grass behind them, they always look ahead and not backwards!  So get ready for a year of new beginnings, like a Phoenix rising from the fire of the year of the snake, out of the ashes of turmoil and change, the horse symbol heralds a time to grow and expand!  

If you were born in 1930,1942,1954,1966,1978,1990,2002 and of course 2014, on or after January 31, you were born the year of the horse.   According to the Chinese horoscope, people of this sign are popular, cheerful, independent and very adept with financial matters.

Horse power is a term we apply to the strength of engines, so that in itself says much about the muscle strength and power of a horse. When someone is described as being a work horse, it means they work hard and get the job done. Horses can also travel great distances, with unwavering stamina. Horse medicine can assist you in accessing self-empowerment, inner strength and stamina.  Horse medicine is also associated with travel. Horse totem can help you as you travel in new directions in your life. With horse totem by your side, whenever you strike out on a new life endeavor, he rides with you, bringing his unique abilities of self-empowerment

With all of the above qualities, horse can help us accomplish all of the new beginnings of this coming year.  On January 31, 2014, a horse totem helper meditation, to call upon and accept horse medicine into your life can help you through the new challenges of this year.  To do a totem meditation, you can use the following example: 

You may ask for Horse totem’s assistance to help you in the coming year of the horse. Here are some suggestions to aid you:

1.  Find a comfortable place to meditate undisturbed.  Have a journal and pen handy. 

2.  Surround yourself with protective white light.  Invite Horse totem to join you.  

3.  You may wish to say the following:  “Sacred Horse totem helper I am now ready to receive your teachings, please come now and share with me your lessons and medicine.” 

4.  Go into meditation and notice any messages Horse totem has for you.  This may be in the form of colors, symbols, shapes, scents, sensations, images, sounds, words, thoughts, etc. 

5.  Thank Horse totem, and come out of meditation. 

6.  As soon as possible, journal everything you remember from the meditation.  (You may do this as often as needed.)
